100 CELLOS

AN ORCHESTRA, A MOVEMENT

Born from the vision of Enrico Melozzi and world-renowned cellist Giovanni Sollima, the 100 Cellos are a living revolution in symphonic music.

A project that fuses tradition, innovation and pure creative freedom, turning every performance into a collective force of sound unlike anything else on stage.

FROM THE MOZART’S WIG

TO THE ELECTRIC GUITAR

The artistic evolution of Enrico Melozzi is a bold journey through music. From the refinement of the classical repertoire to the power of rock, each chapter reveals a creative expansion in constant motion, showing the path of an artist who has learned to merge tradition and revolution into a single vision.

Across opera houses, recording studios and the world’s biggest stages, Enrico Melozzi continues to redefine what an orchestra can be. The music of Enrico Melozzi speaks a universal language, where classical depth meets contemporary energy.

COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR, SINGER, CELLIST & PRODUCER

After his work with Michael Riessler, which brought him closer to contemporary international music, Melozzi made his debut in 2002 as an opera conductor with Oliver Twist. Since then, he has dedicated himself to opera, sacred music and film scoring, gaining wide recognition.

In 2012 he co-founded 100 Cellos with Giovanni Sollima, the first major international gathering of cellists. He later created the Orchestra Notturna Clandestina (The Underground Night Orchestra), an independent symphonic ensemble known for taking classical music outside traditional venues. With the ONC he launched the Clandestine Classical Raves, marathon concerts that challenge conventions and turn the symphonic experience into a powerful, collective ritual.

Always committed to experimentation, he has promoted the first Italian laboratory of collective composition. He conducted the Festival Orchestra of Sanremo for Måneskin, Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Noemi, Mr. Rain, Ghali and many others, also signing arrangements for artists such as Rocco Hunt, Il Volo and Niccolò Fabi.

Sanremo

Since his debut in 2012 conducting Noemi and “Sono solo parole” (3rd place), Enrico Melozzi has become a defining presence at the Ariston. In 2020 he scored four competing songs, including the podium for Pinguini Tattici Nucleari with “Ringo Starr”. In 2021 he led Måneskin to triumph with “Zitti e buoni”, delivering a historic victory for the Festival and then for Eurovision. Year after year, he shapes pop, rock and urban hits with symphonic arrangements, collaborating with Ghali, Mr. Rain, Coma Cose and dozens of major artists. With over ten appearances and four podium finishes, he is the conductor who has revolutionized the face of Sanremo.

Why It Matters

If Sanremo is the ultimate measure of Italian pop, Enrico Melozzi has become its “nomadic” creative director: moving fluidly from Noemi’s soul to Måneskin’s glam-rock, from Achille Lauro’s rap to Coma Cose’s singer-songwriter pop. A red thread that, year after year, has brought to the Ariston stage a vision of orchestra that is free, cross-genre – and always surprising.

By the Numbers

  • 14 songs conducted in competition between 2020 and 2025 (all-time record in the Amadeus era)
  • 4 podium finishes: 2012 (3rd), 2020 (3rd), 2021 (1st), 2023 (3rd)
  • 1 outright victory – Måneskin 2021
  • 2 last places (Bnkr44 2024, Sethu 2023): because taking risks at Sanremo is always part of the game

RECORDING STUDIO

The Studio Notturno of Enrico Melozzi is a creative nest just a few meters from Rome’s Termini Station, perfectly connected to the world. The warm scent of ancient wood fills the space, while fabric-lined walls create an intimate, focused acoustic.

A large window opens onto a breathtaking view of the Eternal City, with rooftops and domes greeting every new composition.

It is Melozzi’s logistical and creative heart, where every idea takes shape between inspiration and global connection.
