by the Melos Chorus
Portrait of a young voice who will be in the Sala Santa Cecilia on 15 November, alongside her father.
Angelica Antonini was born in Milan in 2005. Her first instrument is the violin: she starts with Liana Mosca and continues until 2022 at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, in the class of Claudio Mondini. At the same time, for ten years, she is a member of the Children’s Chorus of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, directed by Bruno Casoni, and with the chorus takes part in many opera and symphonic productions at La Scala.
In 2021 she was an Apparition in La Scala’s Macbeth, with Anna Netrebko, Luca Salsi and Francesco Meli.
In 2021 comes her first solo role, and it comes at La Scala: she is an Apparition in Verdi’s Macbeth conducted by Riccardo Chailly, in a cast with Anna Netrebko, Luca Salsi and Francesco Meli. The Apparitions are the voices the witches conjure in the third act to answer Macbeth, and Verdi entrusts two of the three to children’s voices.
Since 2022 she has studied Baroque singing at the Verdi Conservatory with Gemma Bertagnolli, a soprano who has devoted much of her career to the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century repertoire. The repertoire Angelica presents today runs from Monteverdi to Mozart, by way of Barbara Strozzi, Benedetto Ferrari, Handel, Purcell, Dowland, Vivaldi and the songs for voice and violin by Rebecca Clarke. There are also two arias from Antonio Cesti’s Orontea, the opera her father conducted at La Scala in the 2024/25 season.
2025 is the year of the first concerts. In May she sings at the Scuola Holden in Turin for the Seven Springs season, curated by Gloria Campaner and Nicola Campogrande, together with Giovanni Antonini, Yasaman Mashhouri and Michele Pasotti. In September, with Il Giardino Armonico, she brings music by Monteverdi, Strozzi and Cesti to the Wratislavia Cantans festival in Poland, of which her father has been artistic director since 2013. Then the Oropa Music Festival, between Oropa and Lessona, and in November, in Lodi, the La Lira di Orfeo season directed by the countertenor Raffaele Pe.
Alongside singing she studies Fashion Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
2026 takes her to Switzerland, to the Gorgier Music Festival and to Erasmus Klingt! in Basel, back to Wratislavia Cantans, to the Appennino Festival and again to the Oropa Music Festival, with a concert also at the Teatro Palladium in Rome. Alongside singing she attends the degree course in Fashion Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
On Sunday 15 November Angelica Antonini sings with the Orchestra Notturna Clandestina in The Classical Rave Party, the evening that closes Romaeuropa Festival 2026 in the Sala Santa Cecilia of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. On the podium, for a couple of pieces, will be her father, Giovanni Antonini. In the morning, at 11:30 am, the 100 Cellos play. Tickets from 30 to 40 euros on TicketOne and Vivaticket.
