Introduction

From his earliest works in the 1990s – composed while studying the cello – Melozzi has pursued two obsessions: storytelling (many titles allude to stories, fairy tales, precise dates) and the blending of timbres. The result is music that mixes “flutes doubled by samplers”, string quartets in dialogue with a jazz trio, entire orchestras of cellos, as well as multimedia pieces in which video art and spoken word become an integral part of the score. The common thread is the search for a vivid, communicative sound, able to speak as much to the children of a Little Orchestra as to the night owls of a symphonic rave.
